Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research

The Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC is one of the leading german R&D centers for material-based research and development in the fields of energy, environment and health. The Fraunhofer R&D Center for Electromobility Bavaria (FZEB) at the Fraunhofer ISC employs a team of more than 40 battery experts and is one of the largest battery research groups in Germany. FZEB is partner and coordinator of a substantial number of collaborative projects in the field of development, testing, and optimization of materials, components, and processes for batteries.

Role within INERRANT

In INERRANT, Fraunhofer ISC is task leader in WP2, which deals with the development of scalable and sustainable processes for the synthesis and modification of high-capacity cathode active materials for lithium-ion batteries. Specifically, Fraunhofer ISC focuses on the development of scalable processes for the surface modification of cathode active materials to create an artificial, robust and effective cathode electrolyte interphase (CEI).
