Winter School in Grenoble Highlights Advancements in Battery Research and Collaboration

Grenoble, France, 25-27 March 2025 – The Battery Manufacturing Industry Winter School, co-organised by our partner VERKOR, l’Ecole de la Batterie and the BATTWIN project, brought together participants from a wide range of backgrounds – like experts, managers, researchers, trainers, students and more – for three days of conference talks, presentations, and networking focused on battery research and innovation in the French Alps.

The program included talks of experts on key topics, presentations by PhD students defending their research—some of whom received awards for outstanding work—and a dedicated networking evening focussing on the battery industry, co-organized with the Region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

"The Winter School was really nice—with many participants, and a lot of learning opportunities, collaborations, and interesting discussions", notes Donia Marzougui reflecting the event.

Guinevere Giffin and Serena Cussen shared the work and first results of INERRANT at the Winter School. From JMU Guinevere Giffin presented findings on Exploring the Impact of Materials Structure-Properties-Processing Relationships on Battery Performance. Serena Cussen from UCD shared insights on Designing Ni-rich cathodes for safer, longer lifetime batteries.

The first instalment of the Winter School was a great success providing a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration in the field of energy storage and materials science.
